CONNESTEE FIRE RESCUE
HISTORY
Connesstee Fire Rescue Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1976 with 26 caring volunteers, a mini pumper, a tanker. Then, they responded to about 20 local area calls annually.
Today, CFR employs 4 full time and 10 part time Firefighter/EMT’s and 55 Volunteers. The State of North Carolina requires 36 hours of continuous education for all fire and rescue volunteers annually. Yet, most CFR members invest 100 hours or more to train for specialized Teams like Swift and Still Water rescue, Drone Response, Scuba Search and Recovery and Hazardous Materials.
Connestee Fire Rescue also maintains FIREWISE USA, a wild fire prevention program for individuals and communities.
Our mountain communities require reliable equipment to navigate terrains ranging from river rescues and wilderness trails, to multi-story condo’s and populated neighborhoods to roadside emergencies. Thus, CFR’s fleet includes Fire Engines, Ladder Trucks, Water Craft, Heavy Duty Rescue Trucks, and Tankers. All Terrain Vehicles are equipped with firefighting and rescue gear vital for transporting Firefighters, supplies, EMT/EMS staff and injured personnel.
